WHAT IS SECONDARY OIL RECOVERY?

The bulk of the oil in a field is extracted in the second phase of development at a lower cost and at a much lower risk than primary recovery. We recover up to 50% of the original oil, while sustaining and increasing production by injecting water.

HOW DO YOU EVALUATE AN OIL & GAS PROJECT?

When evaluating an oil & gas project, you’ll want to look at the company’s track record, figure out whether the company has an actual stake in the project, and calculate your return on investment (ROI). Luckily, Wheeler has a proven track record of success with secondary oil recovery and we invest our own money into every project, only making money when our investors do too. Through secondary oil recovery, our projects are also cost efficient, come with unique tax benefits, and have a much lower breakeven price than primary oil recovery.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO INVEST?

We have established a field development project where a non-industry investor can participate in the same capacity as an industry insider. As such, we are looking for accredited investors, regardless of industry knowledge, who want to be a part of a low-risk, high-reward investment. We seek out investors that want to partner with us to successfully execute a development project, all while not exposing the investor to the full cost of the cost of the project.

HOW DO I MAKE MONEY INVESTING?

Where other companies in the space make money by raising money, we make money by successfully completing projects. We have a vested interest with our investors, meaning we only make money when you make money.

WHAT ARE MY TAX BENEFITS FOR INVESTING?

Oil investing tax breaks are significant. The Federal Tax Code Section 263 and Section 179 allows our investors to deduct 90% of total invested funds, the year deployed, against all other taxable income, active, passive or portfolio. It is important to note that these are not deductions of a loss subject to the $3,000.00 annual limit, but are treated by the Tax Code as the deduction of an expense and can be taken in full the year incurred regardless of any other loss/gain deduction for the year. Employee Spotlight: Shelby Birdsong, Controller

As a small business, it’s so important to have an incredible staff and work environment, as both are so crucial to the success of the business. Shelby Birdsong has been with Wheeler Resource Recovery for five years, and we recently sat down with Shelby to shine a light on her contributions to the company and learn about her favorite parts of working at Wheeler Resource Recovery.

As Controller, Shelby is key to managing our relationships with active investors. She is the go-to person for our investors– readily available to answer any questions about revenues and write-offs, which is especially crucial as investors look to reap the tax benefits of investing in oil and gas. Further, she oversees our direct communication to investors, including alerting our network to new investment opportunities as well as issuing updates from the field on our latest projects, like those in Madison County.

Shelby also assists with a wide range of tasks, from overseeing Wheeler’s accounting and financial functions to supporting marketing efforts throughout the year. In her role, she closely supports the Principal of Wheeler Resource Recovery, Kevin Thibeau. “For half a decade, Shelby has been the glue that holds our team together – she wears so many different hats and makes every effort to ensure our operations continue to run smoothly,” said Kevin Thibeau, Principal, Wheeler Resource Recovery.

Shelby specifically shared that she enjoys the dynamic nature of the field. “It’s always changing; our field members are always learning something new, and the industry is getting better and better every year,” she shared. Since she started working at Wheeler Resource Recovery, she has appreciated seeing how much the company continues to grow. The fast-paced energy is one of the main reasons that has kept her at Wheeler Resource Recovery.

Outside of the office, you can catch Shelby watching her favorite sport, hockey, and cheering on her Dallas Stars. She is also an avid competitive bowler and regularly competes in leagues and tournaments.
